A St. Louis Marque, 1898–1926

One of America's finest early automobiles — built by hand, to a single standard.

From a carriage works on North Vandeventer Avenue, George Preston Dorris built cars that outlasted the company that made them. The St. Louis Motor Carriage Company was the first of many St. Louis automakers; the Dorris Motor Car Company that followed produced overhead-valve fours and eighty-horsepower sixes to an uncompromising creed.

This archive gathers what survives — the company's history, the people who built it, the model years, the patents, and a living register of every Dorris and St. Louis car known to exist today.

A family record, kept so the work is not forgotten.
